The Energy and Mobility Award 2022

Co-organised and -sponsored by Volkswagen AG, EDF, Honda, Wista, and EIT InnoEnergy, the 2022 Energy and Mobility Award (EMA) is a high-profile competition for early-stage companies in Europe's German-speaking countries that are leading the way in clean energy and mobility innovation. The Award aims to accelerate the energy and mobility transition by recognising the most promising start-ups in these spaces, and connecting them with potential customers and investors at an in-person event with hand-selected participants. 

Winners were announced at an in-person, invite-only event in Berlin, 30 June 2022.

The EMA 2022 Criteria

Competing for the award are start-ups:
  • In the mobility and energy sectors
  • Focused on low- or zero-carbon solutions
  • In the DACH region 
  • Working on hardware or software
  • With scalable business models
  • At a TRL level between 2 and 8
  • Energy & Mobility Award: Between pre-seed and pre-Series B funding, founded in or since 2016
  • Newcomer Award: Founded in or since 2021

Start-ups in the energy and mobility spaces apply to compete for a cash prize, feedback from established industry leaders, and direct networking opportunities with potential investors.

The 3 EMA finalists are invited to the in-person awards event at BürgschaftsBank in Berlin on 30 June 2022, where they pitch their solutions live to both the jury and an invite-only audience of 150. The winners are then voted on and announced during the program.
